Wunderkammern is glad to invite you to Animated Landscape Pop Up Show. On Wednesday November, 30 at 6.30 pm, the limited edition book by artist Jacopo Ceccarelli aka 2501 entitled Animated Landscape will be presented at Wunderkammern in Milan, Via Nerino 2.
The presentation of the artist’s book is accompanied by a pop-up show: an exhibition and installation on the exterior windows of the Wunderkammern Gallery, on show from 30 November to 3 December 2022. The exhibition conveys the different points of view of the Animated Landscape action through different materials: black and white film photographs taken by the Milanese photographer Guido Borso with interventions by 2501, sketches and studies that accompanied the development and genesis of the project and the homonymous artist’s book.
Animated Landscape, with a critical text by Fabiola Naldi, an introduction by Simone Pallotta and an interview with photographer Paolo Pellegrin is a volume printed in 150 numbered copies and packaged in a box hand-painted by the artist.
The book is divided into five chapters, each of which has a numerical title indicating the coordinates of the exact location where the performative actions conceived by 2501 for the art project came to life. The first took place in Apulia, two were self- produced in Milan and two were realised for the performing arts exhibition at MAXXI L’Aquila. Animated Landscape is in fact a video project combining Land Art, filmic documentation and interaction with the urban fabric, consisting of five actions performed between 2019 and 2021 by the artist in specific territories chosen for their environmental and anthropological characteristics.
In his work, 2501 intervenes on the landscape, crossing it with abstract and ephemeral interventions – geometric compositions, shapes and strokes – carried out using materials that emblematically belong to the territory: waste flour in Apulia or thermal blankets used after the earthquake in L’Aquila. The environmental actions emphasise the physical characteristics and geometries created by the intersection of human architecture and that of the territory, recorded with a drone that, in a zenithal position, films the interventions. The distance of the drone’s point of view makes the human presence almost imperceptible and the signs seem to come alive autonomously within the imperfect geometries of the places themselves. 2501’s idea is to: “to immortalise a precise time lapse, the pictorial materialisation of the time taken to create the work itself. A research that emphasises the progressive aspect, the experience of painting in its becoming in relation to the physical space that hosts it”.
At the opening on Wednesday 30 November at Wunderkammern gallery, Fabiola Naldi, Simone Pallotta and Stefano Ragazzo will present the artist’s book. At 7.30 pm the artist will also perform Animated Landscape N4, staging the soundtrack of the project through the modulated interaction in real time of graphic signs and sounds in which the artist will display his project entitled La Macchina, consisting of devices created in collaboration with Recipient.cc that transform signs into sound waves.
