Vettor Pisani (Bari, 1934 – Rome, 2011) was a painter, architect and playwright.

Vettor Pisani’s infinite journey through art traces real and imaginary episodes of the personal and collective unconscious, touching the nerve points of history and art, reinterpreting Duchamp and his mechanism of reconversion of images to re-read the art itself. By combining sculpture, installation, photography and performance, Vettor Pisani builds dreamlike places populated by sphinxes, puppets, celibate machines, dolls, islands of the dead, which together symbolize the complex universe of the individual’s neuroses, the theatre of humanity deprived of any illusions.

In 1972 he was invited to Kassel’s “Documenta 5” and in addition to the 1972 Venice Biennale, Pisani participated in the 1976, 1978, 1984, 1986, 1990, 1993 and 1995 Biennials. He has also participated in the 1973, 1986 and 1992 Quadrennials Rome and in exhibitions such as Avanguardia / Transavanguardia in Rome and Italian Art Now: an American Perspective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1982; Arte Italiana 1960-1982 at the Hayward Gallery in London in 1982, Terrae Motus and Terrae Motus 2 at Villa Campolieto in Ercolano in 1986 and at the Grand Palais in Paris in 1987.
