We are pleased to announce a new museum exhibition dedicated to the Miaz Brothers!
The opening will be on Saturday 24 February at the GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Roma.
For the occasion, the artists have created a brand new body of unique works on canvas.
THE MIAZ BROTHERS, Roberto (1965) and Renato (1968), who have been working for years on the theme of perception and the relationship between reality and imagination, arrive at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna, from Feb. 24 to May 26, 2024, with Reality: Optional. Miaz Brothers con i Maestri del XX secolo, a conceptual exhibition project in which their experimental approach to portraiture is confronted for the first time directly with the great 20th-century masters in GAM’s public art collection.
Alongside a selection of masterpieces from the permanent collection chosen in agreement with the museum’s curator – Giacomo Balla, Filippo de Pisis, Renato Guttuso, Carlo Levi, Mario Mafai, Giorgio Morandi, Auguste Rodin, Mario Sironi and others – the two artists will exhibit some of their very personal versions of the identified paintings, along with other unpublished works in which the original subjects are reproduced completely out of focus. In a world where technology chases high-definition images and we are continually stimulated by pre-packaged visions, the Miaz Brothers bring to life, while also placing themselves in cultural polemic with current events, enigmatic subjects that can never be fully defined, with the aim of creating a relationship of aesthetic and communicative continuity between their contemporary sign and the style of the original works.
It is the viewer who has to attempt to give a complete definition of the images through his or her own memory and imagination. His or her active engagement will constitute the essential element of an exhibition built on the much debated theme of Post-truth, a term widely addressed and developed in recent years through which we have defined those news items that, although false, are believed to be true by a significant number of people called upon to evaluate them on the basis of their own emotions and prejudices, without giving credence to objective facts and data, suddenly deprived of their meaning and importance.
The exhibition is promoted by Roma Capitale, Assessorato alla Cultura, Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali, in collaboration with Wunderkammern.
Organized by Zètema Progetto Cultura and Wunderkammern.
Curated by Claudio Crescentini and Wunderkammern.
